[Olympians 32 – Blue Raiders 6] April 25, 2010
Bedfordshire having made it to the
playoffs last season with an identical 8-2 season to the Olympians
were pumped up and ready to cause an away upset. One key moment in
the game however was an interception by veteren DB Paul Barquinha
which he returned 31 yards for a touchdown. Receiving the kickoff
to start the game they piled on the pressure and three drives on they
moved the ball into the Olympians red zone. At this point the Olympians
were still unsettled and the Blue Raiders completed a 15 yard pass
to notch up the first score of the game 0-6 but the PAT was no good.
The quarter ended as it commenced for the Olympians with only sporadic
successes.
The 2nd quarter saw the puzzle click into place and the defensive
stance by the Olympians turned the screw on the visitors with a sack
and force fumble by linebackers Sanni-Thomas (aka ‘X’)
and Michael Omeru respectively coupled with an interception
from defensive back Mark Finney. When the offence
got their chance QB Bishop Devin Adkins teamed up with running backs
Toyin Dawudu, Chris Forrester and
Keith Lawson to march the ball into Blue Raiders
territory. QB Devin Adkins the finished the drive
off with an impressive scramble to score the Olympians first TD and
kicker Chris Davies converted the PAT 7-6. The Blue
Raiders managed a couple of drives that produced first downs but no
score was realised. However, the Olympians were now fired up and another
drive saw Lawson lead Forrester for a 25yard TD (13-6) run after a
seal block from offensive tackle Stephen George,
the PAT was no good.
QB Devin Adkins took to the air in the 3rd quarter and put more stress
on the defence of the opposition with solid protection from the offensive
line and RB Alex 'Doc' Gabriel. Wide receiver Folley
Ogundele took a mid tempo route for TD 19-6, PAT was no good.
The passing game became established and took its toll on the Blue
Raiders secondary whilst the run kept the linebackers in a state of
split decisions. Last season wide receiver Daniel Jeanton
was nearly good for a TD per game for the Olympians and in the 4th
quarter he caught a 20 yard pass and juke his way to a season first
TD 25-6, PAT was no good.
Deep into the 4th quarter a Blue Raiders drive
was halted by an interception from veteran player, in an outside LB
position, Paul Barqhuina and he scampered for 31 yards for a
TD and kicker Davies converted his second PAT to complete the scoring
for the day 32-6. Running back Alwyn Davis Jnr. and
rookie Jake Tedder tore up the last 6 drives of the
Olympians with impeccable power rushing.
