Both teams traded opening drives and it seemed that the first quarter was going to be an even battle. The Mavericks were having a good kicking game and on each managed to pin the Olympians within their own 5-yard line. Late in the quarter, one of such punts ended up on the 2-yard line and an ensuing blitz from their linebacker got them a safety when Olympians QB Neale Canning was "tackled" in the endzone. This put the score at 0-2 to the Mavericks.

The second quarter saw the Olympians come alive with Canning finding receivers Kenny Bello, Steve Leonard, and Daniel Jeanton in succession to march up the field. In between this running back Adrian John totted up some brilliant rushing and capped it of with a TD to give the Olympians the lead. Bello took in the PAT on a 2-point conversion to bring the score to 8-2 to the Olympians.

Olympians did not seem to get back their momentum in the third quarter and the Mavericks who then put together a good rushing drive and early in the quarter scored a responding TD capitalized on this. The good PAT now made the score 8-9 to the Mavericks. The reply was good by the Olympians and rushing from running backs Toyin Dawuda and Seun Shobande took the ball into Mavericks territory after a good return from Bello. Receiver Carl James and Bello swapped rushing yards to move the ball to the edge of the opposition red zone and Canning had seemingly hit Leonard for a TD…but was ruled out!

The fourth quarter came and the Mavericks marched on for another TD with a PAT conversion to steal away at 8-16. The upset was now on the cards even more so because the youthful Olympians team could not focus enough to score despite being within the Mavericks 20-yard line a few times before time ran out.

The next game is at home to East Kent Mavericks on July 12 2009, kick off is at 2:30pm.
